I would like to show you how to create a painting from the initial composition sketch to the finished Acrylic painting on canvas. I work in block colour, thinking constantly about complimentary colour arrangement, trying to bring the subject of the painting to life. I outline the subject matter so it reads as individual parts to the composition.

| Composition sketch of Poppies in a field |
| Oranges and reds bring poppy heads to the forefront of the painting |
| The grasses and seed heads are in a complimentary colour to the red Poppy petals |
| The blue sky heightens the painting, as blue detracts and gives illusion of depth |
| Poppy Painting - A work in progress |
| Distinctive details to the Poppy petals are added |
| The outlining separates the individual colours and holds the composition together |
| A close up to show the colours separated by black outlining |
